About Compass
Built to help Scouting leaders
turn information into action.
Compass is a council operations platform designed to help council and district leaders understand what needs attention, coordinate responsibility, and follow through.
Scouting organizations already have significant operational information. Compass is designed to make that information useful — bringing important signals together for the people responsible for acting on them.
Data · Decisions · Action
A simple operating model.
Data
Understand what is happening across councils, districts, units, and programs.
Decisions
Help leaders identify where attention is needed and understand why it matters.
Action
Put responsibility in the right hands and help leaders follow through.
Existing systems
Designed to complement
Scouting systems.
Compass is designed to complement existing Scouting America systems, not replace them.
It helps authorized council and district leaders organize, understand, and act on information available to them through their existing responsibilities and systems.
Council operations
Grounded in the work
leaders do every day.
Compass is being designed around real council and district needs: unit support, membership, training, advancement, organizational health, initiatives, and follow-up.
The aim is to turn operational information into coordinated action, beyond simply presenting another collection of reports.
Security & stewardship
Responsible information.
Responsible access.
Responsible handling of Scouting information is a core design principle.
Compass is being developed with role-based access, controlled authentication, appropriate data scoping, and auditability. Access to information is intended to follow a user’s organizational responsibilities and authorized role.
About the project
Built from a practical question.
Compass is being developed by Summit Ave, a Platteville, Wisconsin-based company whose owners include active Scouting volunteers serving in leadership roles at the council, district, and unit levels.
That firsthand experience with the challenges facing Scouting leaders helps shape Compass around practical needs and real-world council and district operations.
How can councils make better use of the information they already have to support units, volunteers, and the Scouting program?
